A flower on your lobe, a chain down your neck.

Six crystal petals set around a small round center sit against the front of your ear like a pressed flower. From behind, a fine chain falls from the flower's stem, threads through your piercing, and drops down your neck toward the collarbone. From the front, one flower. From the side, a line of light.

This is a threader — the kind of earring where the chain itself passes through the ear rather than hanging from a post. It's the shape people notice in profile, in low light, and in every photograph taken from anywhere except straight on.

How a threader works, in case you haven't worn one

Threaders throw people the first time. Here's how it goes on:

  1. Hold the earring by the flower. The chain hangs down from behind it, ending in a small straight metal bar.
  2. Feed that straight bar through your piercing from the front. It's thin and smooth — no different from any normal post going through.
  3. Keep pulling gently. The bar comes out the back of your ear, and the chain follows it through until the flower rests against the front of your lobe.
  4. Let the chain hang down your neck from the back. The flower's weight and the chain's length hold everything in place. There's no separate back to fasten.

The little straight bar isn't a decoration or a missing stone — it's the guide. It's what pulls the chain through your ear, and it stays hanging behind your ear once you're done. Some people barely notice it; others tuck it up behind the flower.

Two cuts, one flower

The petals aren't all the same shape. Three of them are baguette cuts — the long, rectangular stones you'd see on fine bridal jewelry — laid across the middle of the flower like a bar of light. The other three are marquise, pointed and set around the outside. In the center, a small round crystal reads as the pistil.

Baguette and marquise are two of the more expensive cuts to work with in pavé setting, because each stone has to be angled by hand. It's what gives the flower its structure instead of reading as a generic cluster of round stones.

Where they belong

Dinners, drinks, and every photo taken from the side.
The chain moves with your head. Over dinner, at a bar, walking somewhere with the light behind you, the whole earring catches attention from angles a stud never does. If you post photos of yourself, you'll notice these in every one.

Fall and winter, with your hair back.
Threaders were made for the seasons when you wear your hair up or off one shoulder. High necklines, turtlenecks, scarves — all the things that hide a necklace leave the neck bare for this. Consider it the earring version of a delicate chain.

Weddings you're a guest at.
Delicate enough not to compete with the bride, dressy enough to hold up in the photos, and light enough to wear from the ceremony through the reception without pulling on your lobe.

Days you're on camera.
Content creators, presenters, and anyone who spends time in Zoom calls will notice how threaders read on video: the flower stays framed on the ear, the chain gives the shot movement, and neither reads as "trying."

Two finishes

Gold

A warm gold-tone finish against clear crystal. The classic, and the one that reads a touch more romantic against warm skin tones, ivory, cream, and camel.

Silver

A cooler silver-tone finish where the chain nearly disappears and only the flower and the point of light at your neck register. Sharper, more modern, and the easy pick with white, black, and cool tones.

The things worth knowing

925 sterling silver posts and threader wire.
The parts that touch your piercing — the post at the back of the flower and the fine chain and guide bar that pass through your ear — are 925 sterling silver, the same grade used in fine jewelry. The flower's setting and plating are on brass. We list it that way rather than calling the whole earring silver, because only the parts that go through your ear are.

Almost weightless.
The whole earring weighs less than a pair of small studs. The flower rests on your lobe rather than hanging from it, and the chain trails freely without adding pull. You can wear these all evening without feeling the piercing at the end of the night.

Ships as a mirrored pair.
Both earrings are made the same way and go on either ear. Put them in, let the chain settle, and they line up on their own.

Questions we get

Is that little bar at the end the earring back?
Not exactly. It's the threader guide — the piece that pulls the chain through your ear. Once you've fed the chain through, the bar just hangs behind your ear along with the rest of the chain. There's no separate back to fasten or lose.

Will it fall out?
In normal wear, no. The flower's weight in front and the length of chain hanging behind balance each other; the chain also has enough friction against the piercing that it doesn't slip through. If you're doing something active, it's fine to gently pull the chain a little through the back so the flower sits snug against your lobe.

Are the stones diamonds?
No, they're mixed-cut crystals — baguette across the center and marquise around the outside, set the same way a jeweler sets pavé stones. That's what keeps a piece this detailed at this price while still catching light the way pavé should.

Are these sterling silver?
The posts and the threader wire are, 925 sterling silver. That's every part that actually passes through your piercing. The flower's setting and plating are on brass. We list it that way rather than calling the whole earring silver, because only the parts that go through your ear are.

Gold or silver?
Match what you already wear. Gold suits warm and neutral wardrobes and reads a touch more romantic. Silver is cooler and more modern, and pairs with white, black, and cool tones. For daytime wear, Gold is the safer pick; for evening, either works.

Can I sleep or shower in them?
Better not to. Take them off before bed, before the shower, and before the pool. The chain in particular tangles if you sleep on it. See the care note.

Taking care of them

Treat these as the last thing you put on and the first thing you take off. Perfume, hairspray, lotion, chlorine, and sweat are what dull crystal and wear down any plated finish over time, so let those go on first and the earrings go on last.

Wipe them gently with a soft dry cloth after wearing, and lay the pair flat in the pouch rather than tossing them in with other jewelry, where the fine chain can tangle. If the chain does tangle, work it out slowly with your fingers rather than pulling. No jewelry dips, no ultrasonic cleaners, nothing abrasive near the crystals.

Try them for 30 days

Wear them out. See how they photograph, how they sit under a turtleneck, how they feel by the end of the night. If they aren't right, send them back within 30 days for a refund. Shipping is on us both ways.
